What we know about the test
The rules are new and most of what is written about the test online is guesswork. We only write what UHR and the Migration Agency have published, with a source and a date.
- The test has been part of the knowledge requirement since 6 June 2026. It applies to anyone applying for citizenship who is 16 to 66 years old. All the requirements.
- The first test was held on 15 August 2026 in Stockholm. 60 multiple-choice questions with four options, in Swedish, 90 minutes. The format of the next test has not been published. How the test works.
- The pass mark has not been set. UHR will publish the results and the pass mark in October 2026. Follow the news.
- The test costs SEK 2,000 from 2027. Tests held during 2026 are free. How to register.

How the course works
- Read one chapter at a time. Every lesson explains the chapter in plain Swedish, with the words the test uses.
- Answer questions straight after. Every question has an explanation and a page reference to Sverige i fokus, so you see where the answer is.
- Take the mock test. The same form as the August test: multiple-choice questions against the clock, mixed from all chapters.
- Revise what you missed. The course keeps track of which chapters you need to read again.

The language test: UHR's timeline is expected by 30 September
By 30 September 2026, UHR must report a new timeline for the test in Swedish, which under the law must exist by 1 October 2027 at the latest.

The course is written and maintained by Shayan Parsai, course lead and course developer. He previously built the online courses behind YK Kurser for the Swedish Transport Agency's knowledge tests, and works day to day with how people read and search online.
Every fact in the course has a source at UHR, the Migration Agency or in the legal text. When UHR changes something, we change it too, and write when it was done.
Frequently asked questions about the Swedish citizenship test
What is the Swedish citizenship test?
A test in civics (samhällskunskap) run by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). It has been part of the knowledge requirement for Swedish citizenship since 6 June 2026 and is based on UHR's study material Sverige i fokus.
Who has to take the test?
Anyone who applies for Swedish citizenship and is between 16 and 66, unless they can show the knowledge in another way, for example with a grade in civics from a Swedish school. The Migration Agency decides and sends a letter telling you to register.
What did the first test look like?
The test on 15 August 2026 had 60 multiple-choice questions with four options, on paper and in Swedish, with 90 minutes of test time. UHR has not published the format of the next test.
What is needed to pass?
UHR has not published a pass mark. The results of the August test and the pass mark will be published in October 2026. We will write about it as soon as UHR announces it.
Is Medborgarskapskursen an official course?
No. Medborgarskapskursen is an independent course from Znoff AB and has no connection to UHR or the Migration Agency. The content is based on the official study material, but the questions are our own.
