About 80 per cent of the 875 people who took the citizenship test in August passed. The pass mark was 28 of 40 points, and UHR plans the next test for April or May 2027.
On 22 October 2026, UHR (the Swedish Council for Higher Education) published the results of the citizenship test in civics. 875 people took the test on 15 August, and about 80 per cent passed. The pass mark was 28 of 40 points. If you took the test, you can now see your result in your UHR account.
What has UHR published?
- 875 people took the test at Stockholmsmässan in Älvsjö on 15 August 2026.
- About 80 per cent passed. That is roughly 700 people.
- The pass mark is 28 of 40 points, or 70 per cent correct.
- The University of Gothenburg proposed the pass mark, and UHR has confirmed it.
The Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) now gets the results from UHR and can move on with citizenship applications.
Why 40 points when the test had 60 questions?
The August test was a trial test (utprövningsprov). It had more questions than the ones that count. UHR tried out the questions and then picked 40 that worked well. That is why the highest possible score is 40, even though the test had 60 questions.
How do I see my result?
Log in to the account you created when you registered for the test. It shows your result, the pass mark and how many correct answers you had.
You cannot see which questions you got right or wrong. The test is confidential (provsekretess), which means the questions are kept secret.
UHR sends your result to the Migration Agency automatically, so you do not need to send it yourself.
What happens with my application now?
While the Migration Agency was waiting for the results, it mainly decided cases that were refused. Now it has the results and can move on with more cases.
Passing the test is not enough on its own. You must also meet the other requirements for Swedish citizenship. The Migration Agency has not said how quickly decisions will come. If they need more from you, they will contact you.
I failed. What do I do?
UHR says that people who fail may get a chance to show their knowledge again. The Migration Agency decides what applies to you, so contact them. If you want to take the test again, you need to register again when the next test opens.
When is the next test?
UHR is planning the next civics test for April–May 2027. There is no date yet, and registration is closed. UHR says that information about the date, registration, test time and number of questions will come later. From 2027 the test costs SEK 2,000.
In September, the University of Gothenburg estimated that the next test could be held in March 2027. UHR’s plan is now April–May. We will update the guide to the next test date when the date is announced.
Will the pass mark be 28 points next time too?
Nobody knows. The pass mark is set after each test. The University of Gothenburg writes that different versions of the test are not exactly equally difficult, so the number of correct answers needed can differ. The August pass mark shows roughly what level is needed, but do not count on exactly 28 next time.
What should I do now?
- Did you pass? You do not need to do anything. The Migration Agency will contact you if they need more documents.
- Did you fail? Contact the Migration Agency and ask what applies to you.
