Old enough to be prosecuted and convicted of a crime. In Sweden you become criminally responsible at 15.

Facts about the word

  • Children under 15 who commit crimes cannot be sentenced, but social services can intervene.
  • Being of criminal age is not the same as being of legal age: you become an adult at 18.
  • Young people between 15 and 18 often get milder sentences than adults.
